Snow Day

February 24th, 2010 — 10:36am

I woke this morning to a foot of the heaviest, wettest snow that is possible within the confines of nature.  Crappy weather begets snow day, snow day begets brother and sister at home, sister begets blasting of Miley Cyrus.  Today’s weather is some of my favorite to drive in, requiring more active maneuvering than one typically applies while on a clear road.  Although it freaks most passengers out, I actually get some enjoyment out of the slipping tires (so long as I have some sense of when it is going to happen).  Beyond this mornings trip to the supermarket, however, I am going to avoid getting back on the road, mostly because of the risk presented by those who believe that their SUV will be unaffected by the slush.

I spent a part of the morning playing with the code for this new site, figuring out what numbers correspond to what colors.  It is incredibly slow, but once I have it all laid out of paper I can go about changing things much faster and with greater accuracy.  I have almost no experience in programming or in writing even the most basic of code, so I’m going to have to rely on the foundation of whatever theme I choose.  I can make the site look drastically different, but it will still share the primary features set down by the original programmer.  Basic looks and features have always been my favorite.

New blog, New post.

February 23rd, 2010 — 4:40pm

Another Blog, another reason.  This theme will soon be replaced by something a bit friendlier on the eyes, but lets focus on the content for the time being.  I already have a blog that keeps me plenty busy, but I find that I want to write more, and on different things.  My primary writing focuses on all things China, which is great, but I also just want to drop a post here and there that have nothing to do with the middle kingdom.  Namely, I just want to write.  There is much to be said for having a blog that has a focus, but I warn you now, this one will not necessarily be as such.  With this, the only guidelines that I intend to set are that I write on my thoughts from the day, and that they not be particularly long.  There is a great challenge in writing good, short pieces, and I have always found the concise works to be my favorite.  Besides, once I start working full time it’s going to be hard to continually churn out those 2000 word articles.  Will anyone read?  Will I maintain my interest in writing?  Who knows, but at present I’m feeling like a young driver in an empty parking lot.  Time to get reckless.
